Wonder of The Week

How do candy canes get their shape?

A Week of Holiday Fun in Kindergarten!

Whew! This week has been a complete whirlwind! We have had fun learning about Christmas customs around the world, Hannukah, and creating our own Gingerbread houses! We are so excited about this time and we have learned a lot.

One of my favorite things about this time of year is learning about other cultures and the way they celebrate. One of our friends, Sam, celebrates Hannukah. All week this week, we have discussed Hannukah in addition to Christmas as The Festival of Lights is actually celebrated this week. Each day, Sam has added a candle to his Menorah (since we cannot light it) and yesterday, he taught us how to play with a dreidel!

(It was very hard to spin on the carpet, so we had to move to tile :) )

Sam was even kind enough to let other friends play with his driedels!

We have also studied Christmas customs around the world this week. Our elves, Clems and Snowflake have been busy flying to the North Pole, USA, Mexico and Germany this week and bringing us information to fix Operation Hot Cocoa disaster for Santa before Christmas. We discussed our Christmas customs in America, learned all about Las Posadas in Mexico, and about Kris Kringle in Germany! We learned that gingerbread cookies originally came from Germany, so we decided what better way to celebrate our learning about Germany than creating gingerbread houses!

We worked in station rotations while we made our houses, and let me tell ya'll... we had a blast! We made a huge mess, but we were so engaged and so excited that this teacher was ok with cleaning up a big mess! :) Here are some pictures from our fun!

We are looking forward to an extra fun week next week! We will be having our Christmas party and we will be "taking a trip" on the Polar Express! Stay tuned for our week full of Christmas fun!

Doughnuts With Dad

This morning, we had a blast eating doughnuts with some very special men in our lives. Thanks to our special visitors for coming to enjoy some special time with us this morning!
