All About Ms. Fortner

All About Ms. Fortner

At the beginning of the year in Kindergarten, we spend a lot of time learning about each other. We discuss things that make us the same and what makes us different (what makes us unique and what we have in common, too!) We always have a lot of fun learning about each other! Here is the page I like to share with my kindergarten friends, so they can learn about me, too!

Yep! I was a baby one time (my kinder friends get a kick out of that!). This is a picture of me a few days after I was born.

I was born in Greenville, SC on February 23. My parents' names are Angie and Robert. I was their first child (and that makes me the oldest!) If you have a younger brother or sister but not an older brother or sister, you are the oldest, just like me!

When I was 3 years old, I took my first dance class. I was hooked! This is a picture of me at my first dance recital. I took dance all throughout elementary, middle, and high school. I even continued to dance in college! Dancing was my choice of sport and it kept me healthy. It was my FAVORITE thing to do... besides read, of course! Do you like to dance like I do? What do you like to play?

(Oh, friends, I have a secret.. don't let your mommies and daddies know... but we play A LOT in kindergarten. And we sing! And we dance! It is SO much fun! But we don't need to tell the grown ups about how much fun we have in kindergarten... they'll want to come too!!)

And guess what? I went to kindergarten too!! I went to kindergarten at Shannon Forest Christian School in Greenville. This is a picture from my kindergarten graduation. When I was in kindergarten, we played and sang and I loved my teacher (I still remember everything about her.) It was in kindergarten that I knew that I wanted to grow up and be a teacher. What do you want to be when you grow up?

When I was 8 years old, my little brother was born. His name is Kirkland. He is fifteen years old, cool, and very smart. He is also extra special because he has what is called Autism. Autism means that he sees the world a little bit differently than you and I do. Now, does this make him different? No way, Jose!! He is just like you and me. After he was born, I really knew I wanted to be a teacher and make a difference in the lives of friends, like you!

When I got older, I went to college at my dream school, Clemson University! (If you don't like Clemson, that's okay! We can agree to disagree, because it's okay to like different things! So no ugly comments, please, friends!)  I was a Clemson Rally Cat all four years when I went to Clemson. I had a lot of fun cheering on the tigers during football and basketball games. I learned a lot about how to work hard and not give up during college. One day, friends, you'll go to college too! What college do you want to go to?

Then, I graduated from Clemson. In May of 2014, I graduated Cum Laude / honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education. When I graduated, I got the best job in the world- being a kindergarten teacher at Oakland Elementary!

But, I couldn't stop learning there. Guess what, friends? You go to school... and your TEACHER is going to school! When I'm not at school teaching you, I go home and work on MY homework. (That's right... I have homework!) I am currently pursuing my Masters of Science in Education in Special Education from Purdue University. I'm a student, too! Just like you.

Do you have a pet? This is my pet. Her name is Tilley. She is a miniature (a fancy word for small) dachshund. I got her when I graduated from Clemson. Tilley and I like to play tug, go on walks, and snuggle. I talk about Tilley a lot! Sometimes, when my friends have really good days, I use my Apple TV to show my friends extra silly pictures of her.

I am not married, yet! This summer, I got engaged to my best friend in the whole world. His name is Ben and he is a pilot in the Air Force. (Yes, he flies air planes!) He doesn't live near us, he is in a different state called Mississippi, so we don't get to see each other very much. We met when we were in high school, and we are getting married next July! Friends, you are the last class ever who will get to call me "Ms. Fortner"... next year, my friends will call me Mrs. Harmon! You guys are a SUPER special group (but we already knew that!)

Other things about Ms. Fortner:

Favorite color: blue
Favorite food: Sushi! YUM!
Favorite restaurants: Chick Fil A, Bonefish Grill, Tupelo Honey Cafe
Favorite dessert: ice cream (any, but especially frosted lemonades from Chick Fil A!)
Fun fact: I drink a cup of coffee every single morning. I can't live without it!

Do we have anything in common? I can't wait to learn more about you, friends!
