Wonder of the Week #17

What happens if you don't brush your teeth?

How can we share our research?

During our Animals in Winter PBL, we have been learning all about the ways animals survive in winter. We have learned about hibernation, adaptation, and migration. We recieved a letter from the park ranger last week asking us to help him find out how 5 animals survive in the winter. Last week, we researched all 5 animals. This week, we became experts and shared our research with the park ranger through PicCollage.

First, we chose what animal we wanted to become experts on..

Then, we started compiling our research in our expert groups...

Then, we used our paper versions of our PicCollage to create our PicCollage on our animals.

These were 100% student made (only with guidance when needed!) I am so proud of my kinder friends and all of our hard work. Tomorrow, we will share our pic collages with each other and send them to the Park Ranger.

"They migrate, they eat nectar, they migrate over 2,000 miles."

"They adapt, they it twigs, and they change colors."

"They migrate, they eat worms, they grow more feathers."

100th Day of School!

WHEW!!! What a jam - packed day we had yesterday! This blog post is a day late because we had the most WONDERFUL 100th day, and it wore this teacher OUT!  I can't believe we have already made it to the 100th day! Can you believe it? Time is FLYING by!

The 100th day of school calls for CELEBRATION! So we had a special way to enter our classroom... :-)

We began our day by picking out portions of a 100 picture, counting each part and adding the parts to 100!

We then continued our day by discussing 100 ways to show kindness. One of my favorite models of kindness is Kid President. We started our discussion of 100 Acts of Kindness by watching this video:

Then, we wrote 100 ways to show kindness! To say my teacher heart was swelled up with pride could be the understatement of the year. I was SO proud of the kind hearts of my sweet students. Here are a few examples of their idea of showing kindness..

Then we read Miss Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten, and wrote 100 things we learned!

(We really only had room for 60, but hey, we wrote about 60 things we learned this year.. and that's A LOT!!)

We counted to 100 many times throughout the day. We counted by 1's, 5's, 10's and 2's. We LOVE practicing skip counting and it's one of our favorite parts of our day. We practice these songs often and we wanted to show off our skills.

We have a math routines board that we complete every day. My friends were so excited to count to 100, that we picked a friend that lead us in our counting!

In Math, we had to see how many times we could clap, hop up and down, stand up and sit down, write our name, say the alphabet, and blink in 100 seconds! We estimated how many times we thought we could do it.. then we tested out our abilities by actually doing these things for 100 seconds.

Here is our video of us clapping for 100 seconds...

Here we are saying the alphabet for 100 seconds...

Then, we got to have our special 100th day snack! We had ten different items that we each had ten pieces of, and as we discussed throughout the day, 10 groups of 10 makes 100! We had pretzel sticks, fruit loops, cheerios, raisins, M&Ms, popcorn, marshmallows, teddy grahams, goldfish and chocolate chips! We counted out our groups for our snack then enjoyed our special treat...

After our bellies were full from our special snack, we finished our day giving this special sign off for the day...
