What a fun trip at Strawberry Hill! Here is a recap of our day!!
We began our day by unloading the bus at Strawberry Hill and getting onto our hay ride. We had to start our hay ride by saying "Yee Haw!" and letting the tractor driver know that we were ready for our ride to begin!
In the middle of our ride, we saw cows! We each got two pieces of "cow candy" and got to feed the cows! We noticed the cows have VERY long tongues!
After we fed the cows, our hay ride continued to the baby cows, that we learned are also called calves. Their names were Alfalfa and Darla (just like in the Little Rascals!) We got to see how soft Darla was (much softer than the big cows) and sing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" to her while she drank from her bottle.
And just when we thought that we had seen all of the baby animals, we got a chance to see the baby pigs, which we learned are called piglets!
And yes, Ms. Garner and I got in the pig pen, and we caught pigs! I can now check that one off my bucket list ;-)
Then we headed over toward the playground to play on tire swings, but first, we stopped for a class picture!
After we got some energy out by playing, we headed over to the pumpkin patch to learn all about the life cycle of a pumpkin.We were worried about rain, but it held off for us!
Before we got to pick pumpkins, we of course, had to learn all about the life cycle of a pumpkin! We learned that pumpkins require soil, air, water, sun, and space to grow. We saw real examples of every stage in the life cycle of a pumpkin. Pumpkins begin as seeds, and then grow into a vine with flowers and leaves. The flower petals eventually wilt away and what is left is a little GREEN pumpkin! We were amazed that pumpkins don't start out as orange, but green! Then, as the pumpkin grows, it turns orange!
After our lesson, we had a blast picking out our pumpkins. Here are a few friends who were willing to pose with their pumpkins for me :)

Then, we had to finish our hay ride... so that we could put up our pumpkins and go to the last part of our day before lunch,
We briefly sat and listened to the rules of the corn maze. We needed to find all of the stations in the maze and put chalk on our fingers to prove that we found them!
Our first station was the yellow loony lamb station. We dipped our thumbs in the chalk.

Then we had to continue on to find more stations in the maze...
And then we found the red rowdy rooster!
We also found the green and the blue stations!

We then crossed the street and went to the Strawberry Hill playhouse to eat lunch. We enjoyed our lunch and were treated with some delicious vanilla and chocolate ice cream.
I really enjoyed our field trip and seeing the wonder, excitement, and learning in my students' eyes all day! I look forward to our future field trips!
