Exploring Fall With Our Five Senses

Whew, today was a JAM PACKED day. We explored Fall today through our senses (yes, even taste!)

Our day started off by making pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese icing. We discussed what went into the mix for our cupcakes and mixed it all together. Then, we baked them in our room.  (Don't worry, we waited till AFTER lunch to enjoy our special fall treats :-) )

As our cupcakes were baking, we recorded what we smelled in our wonder journal. We discussed that our room smelled like pumpkins (and that it smelled really good!) Oh, and we all agreed, they were YUMMY!!

Then, we headed over to the wonder room where there were 5 tables set up with different things for students to explore. These tables included: acorns, indian corn, gourds, pine cones, leaves, and a pumpkin! Each table had magnifying glasses, and students were allowed to use their sense of touch to explore these objects. This was my favorite part of the day. I loved seeing my students turn into little scientists!

The whole time students were exploring, they were also recording in their wonder journals!

Perhaps the most / least popular table was the pumpkin table. It had very mixed reviews...

Lastly, after we explored through our sense of touch in the wonder room, we took our wonder journals and went outside on a "wonder walk" to see what we see and hear in the fall. While on our walk one of my friends said, "Ms. Fortner! I hear leaves crunching under my feet!" We had to stop right there and record it in our journals!

And while on our walk, we came up to a tree that the leaves had begun to change! One of my friends pointed this out by saying "Look! Those leaves are red!" Again, we had to stop immediately and record this in our journal. We discussed how we are just now in the beginning of fall and the seasons are just now starting to change. We are excited to see what happens in the next few weeks as fall progresses!

This week has been so much fun! I am so excited to continue growing with my kinder friends in our knowledge about all things Fall!!
