Veteran's Day

Today is a very special day for our country. We pay respect to those who have served and are currently serving in the military. This morning, we discussed who veterans are and why they are so important to our country. We also discussed freedom and what freedom really means. My friends were so surprised this morning to find out that in some countries, people don't have the same freedoms that we have, like getting to go to school every day! We couldn't imagine our life without our freedom.

We got messy today and paid homage to the people who so selflessly have served our country and who currently serve our country every day. We created American Flags and wrote what we think about Veterans on them.

Then, we read the book Hero Dad and discussed what a hero is. We decided that all Veterans are heroes for what they do for our country. We also created a short and simple book about Veterans that was appropriate for our age level. "We recorded things like Veteran's day is in November", "We wear red, white and blue" and "We honor the men and women who serve our country".

Lastly, we wanted to really thank our veterans. We know that saying "thank you" is nothing compared to the sacrifices made daily by veterans, but we want every veteran in our lives to know how much they matter to us...
