Today, we wondered how meteorologists measure precipitation. We knew that metorologists have tools that help them, but we weren't sure just what they used.
We had a few ideas for how meterologists might measure precipitation...
We came to this website which showed us how to make a rain gauge. We used a soda bottle, a ruler, tape, and pebbles to make our rain gauge (it's very easy and would be a lot of fun to do at home if you're interested!)

Then, we went outside to place our rain gauge. We had to make sure it was secure so that it wouldn't fall over, and we needed to put it far enough away from the building so that the rain would fall into it.

We wrapped up our day by learning about the water cycle. We discussed evaporation, condensation and precipitation. We even had a song to go with it.
