How was the way Pilgrims lived different from the way we live?

Today we read The Story of The Pilgrims. We learned about how when the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, they had no homes to live in and had to make their own out of logs and straw. We also learned that they quickly had to make their home and they created a "Common Home" where all of the Pilgrims lived. We realized how cramped they must have been, all sharing one home!

Then, we created our own model pilgrim home. We started by putting the logs on the sides to create the frame of the home..

Then we twisted up the straw so we could have a roof on our common home...

And here is our work in progress Common House! We still have some more straw to put on it, but you get the idea :)

We have had so much fun learning about the first Thanksgiving and comparing it to Thanksgiving celebrations today. We can't wait to find out more about the way the Pilgrims and Native Americans celebrated the first Thanksgiving!

  1. Wow, Fort Kindergarteners, your common house looks awesome! So proud to see that you all worked collaboratively to create a great model of what pilgrims would have built! "Making Success Happen!"
